Subtle sips, wary trout and gin clear water is what drove us to develop the highly accurate Ultralight line. The Ultralight is the “go to” dry fly line for medium to large rivers when precise presentation is a must.
The unique, ultra-thin 18 ft. front taper allows for delicate presentations at greater distances through precise loop control. The thin overall diameter decreases water surface disturbance for smart, pressured trout. The Ultralight head design allows you to hold more line in the air for shots at distant rises with little effort.
The Ultralight features three visual color changes for optimal pick up and shooting points. This line features dual welded loops for convenient rigging. The Ultralight is the stealthiest, most technical, high performing taper we offer that will elevate your dry fly game. Offered from a 2wt to 6wt.
As a floating line, the Ultralight is great for roll casting, easy to mend, and ideal for a wide range of dry flies. The green and yellow color helps further hide this fly line from fish while also being easy for you to see at every cast. Of course, the reliability of your fly line comes down to the core, and the braided nylon multifilament core of our Ultralight trout fly line is great at resisting coil memory. That helps make it excellent for fishing any season throughout the year.
It all started over a century ago in 1915 when Cortland was founded. Nylon had not yet been invented, but this early start put Cortland at the leading edge of developing some of the most innovative fly-fishing line in the industry. That dedication to always pursuing the best performing, most reliable, and highest-quality fly line continues today with over 450 different fly lines to choose from, including our popular freshwater trout series.
Our expertise in developing some of the industry's best fly line allowed Cortland to expand into manufacturing cords back in the early 1980s. Today, Cortland Cable Co. continues to manufacture synthetic cords and fibers for advanced applications in the aerospace and medical industries.
This is a level of mastery that makes a big difference when you're looking for a better fly line, no matter what you're fishing for or where. We think you'll agree that a Cortland fly-fishing line will provide the best value and performance. That way, you can focus on hunting the fish and not worrying about your gear.

Ultralight
Learn more details about the Cortland's Ultralight fly line.
Our Ultralight fly line is built for cold water environments and will perform best in temperatures between 30 and 70 degrees (F). Our HTX coating locks out dirt and grime while remaining slick and supple in the coldest conditions.
The taper design for our ultralight fly line was built with an extended front taper for delicate dry fly presentations with long leaders. The short body paired with the long front taper allows for precise loop control. This line is built in true line size so your rod is never overloaded when carrying a lot of line in the air.
The Ultralight is finished in Aqua Green, Dark Green and Pale Yellow distinguishing taper change, and identifying optimal pick up and shooting points. These colors are stealthy yet traceable in freshwater environments.
Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.
