Leaders for better turnover, presentation, and control.
Application Guide
Use these common fly fishing setups as a starting point, then choose leader material and strength based on fly size, water clarity, fish species, and how much abrasion you expect. For more setup help, view the Line & Leader Setup Guide.
Dry Flies
Nylon Tapered Leaders
Lighter tippet sizes
Supple turnover and natural presentation for trout, panfish, and technical freshwater fishing.
Subsurface
Fluorocarbon Leaders
Nymphs and wet flies
Low visibility, added abrasion resistance, and better confidence below the surface.
Euro Nymphing
Euro Nymph Leaders
Tight-line presentations
Designed for contact, sensitivity, and control when fishing weighted nymphs.
Streamers & Bass
Streamer Nylon Leaders
Bass Nylon Leaders
Stronger, more direct setups for larger flies, aggressive retrieves, and hard strikes.
Saltwater
Saltwater Nylon Leaders
Salmon Steelhead Leaders
Heavier leader options for larger fish, bigger flies, wind, current, and demanding conditions.
When to Replace
Inspect leaders and tippet before every outing, after landing fish, and anytime your setup contacts rocks, brush, structure, teeth, or heavy current. Replace leader material at the first sign of damage so turnover, presentation, and knot strength stay dependable.
- Visible nicks or abrasion
- Wind knots or memory coils
- Frayed or rough surface
- Stiffness or discoloration
- Compromised knot strength
