FAQ

Our Streamer Sink Tip 25 fly line is built for cold water environments and will perform best in temperatures between 30 and 70 degrees (F).

We designed this line with ultimate versatility in mind. Keep your fly down in riffles and heavy current, fish your streamer low & slow during the winter, or instantly get your fly down when casting off a boat.

The black and sage green color combination distinguishes the transition between sinking and floating portions of the line, and provides depth reference on your retrieve. These colors are stealthy yet traceable in freshwater environments.

Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

Plunge Into the Depths with the Streamer Sink Tip 25

September 15th, 2025

When targeting elusive trophy fish that lurk in the deepest, most challenging parts of rivers and lakes, the critical first step is getting your fly down into their strike zone. The Streamer Sink Tip 25 is purpose-built and meticulously engineered for this exact challenge, providing you with the unparalleled power and precise depth control needed to effectively dredge the bottom and consistently provoke aggressive strikes from wary predators. This specialized line features an aggressive, short taper and an over-weighted head, creating a powerful combination that loads even modern, fast-action fly rods with incredible ease. This thoughtful design generates immense line speed, allowing you to effortlessly turn over even the bulkiest, most wind-resistant streamer patterns in your fly box. You'll immediately feel the significant difference as you effortlessly cast heavy, articulated flies or weighted sculpins, punching them through strong headwinds and delivering them with pinpoint accuracy to your desired target. Whether you are fishing from a drift boat, a pontoon boat, or wading a deep, fast-moving run, this line’s superior casting prowess means you can cover more water efficiently and keep your fly in the crucial strike zone for extended periods.

The standout and most critical feature of this line is its massive, integrated 25-foot, Type 6 sinking tip. This extended and powerful head is ingeniously engineered with our proprietary Tungsten Tip Technology, which strategically uses premium tungsten particles to achieve a remarkably rapid and consistent sink rate of 6 inches per second. This ensures your fly dives deep immediately upon casting, efficiently cutting through strong subsurface currents and reaching fish holding tight to the bottom structure, such as submerged logs, rock piles, or ledges. The generous 25-foot length of the sinking tip provides a long, straight-line connection to your fly, which is absolutely critical for detecting subtle takes, even in deep water, and executing effective strips and swings. Paired with this powerful sinking head is a high-visibility, brightly colored floating running line that makes line management simple and intuitive. You can easily track your line's position, make necessary mends to control your drift, and manage slack, whether you are wading a river or casting from a boat. Built on a strong, resilient braided nylon multifilament core, this 100-foot weight-forward line is truly the ultimate weapon for pursuing a variety of species, including trout, steelhead, salmon, and bass, in their deep-water haunts.

Engineered for exceptional durability and user-friendly performance, the Streamer Sink Tip 25 incorporates several key technologies to significantly enhance your time on the water. It features robust dual-welded loops on both the tip and the running line, ensuring that rigging is fast, simple, and exceptionally reliable. You can quickly switch leaders or connect to your backing in seconds without worrying about bulky knots or weak points that could fail under pressure. The entire line is coated with our advanced Shooting Technology (ST), a slick, highly durable finish that dramatically reduces friction and helps the line shoot through the rod guides for maximum casting distance. This specialized coating also actively repels dirt, grime, and other foreign debris, maintaining the line's optimal performance over countless fishing trips and seasons. Designed as an all-season workhorse, it remains supple and memory-free in frigid cold water conditions (30-50°F) and reliably retains its optimal stiffness and slickness in warmer conditions (50-70°F), adapting to various fishing environments. This exceptional line is a proud product of the Cortland Line Company’s unparalleled expertise and commitment to quality. With over a century of continuous innovation in line manufacturing, we proudly craft every single line right here in the USA. This unwavering commitment to precision and excellence has also allowed us to develop highly specialized fibers for the demanding medical and aerospace industries, showcasing our advanced material science capabilities. Trust in Cortland’s American-made quality to give you the definitive edge on your next deep-water angling adventure.
