FAQ

Our Streamer Sink Tip 10 fly line is built for cold water environments and will perform best in temperatures between 30 and 70 degrees (F).

The taper design for our Streamer Sink Tip 10 fly line was built featuring an aggressive head design integrated with a 10' type 6 sink tip. We designed this line with ultimate versatility in mind. Keep your fly down in riffles and heavy current, fish your streamer low & slow during the winter, or instantly get your fly down when casting off a boat.

The black and olive color combination distinguishes the transition between sinking and floating portions of the line, and provides depth reference on your retrieve. These colors are stealthy yet traceable in freshwater environments.

Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

Streamer Sink Tip 10 Fly Line for Subsurface Precision

December 15th, 2025

The Cortland Streamer Sink Tip 10 is engineered for precision-minded anglers who need to work just under the surface film—where predatory fish often hunt and traditional floating lines fall short. With a 10-foot Type 3 sinking tip, this line offers a measured sink rate of 3–4 inches per second, making it ideal for situations where fish are holding just below the surface or hugging shallow structures like rock ledges, weed lines, or submerged timber.

Whether you’re fishing early mornings on a stillwater lake or working narrow river seams during runoff, the Streamer Sink Tip 10 allows you to maintain constant contact with your fly without overpowering the presentation. This line bridges the gap between full-floating and full-sinking setups, offering a tactical middle ground that gives anglers both control and subtlety. It’s a favorite among streamer anglers who want a quick descent and efficient retrieve without losing touch or feel in the water column.

Its design encourages tight loops and clean turnover, helping you place your fly exactly where you need it—even when casting into a headwind or maneuvering under overhanging limbs. When fish are feeding low and you only have a narrow zone to work with, this line delivers the precision you need to stay in the game.

Smooth Energy Transfer with Minimal Slack

At the heart of the Streamer Sink Tip 10 is a supple, low-memory braided nylon core that retains flexibility in a variety of temperatures. That core is matched with a slick, durable coating that resists tangling and shoots cleanly through guides—even when you’re working tight banks or making backhand casts. The transition between the floating body and the 10-foot sink tip is designed for seamless energy transfer, reducing hinge points and allowing your line to lay down with accuracy.

This fluid tapering also improves hook-setting power at distance and enhances mending control when fishing across currents. From pocket water to tailouts, the Streamer Sink Tip 10 provides a high level of responsiveness that helps anglers stay connected through every movement of the fly. The color-coded sections also aid in visibility and depth estimation, letting you track both your line and the drift with confidence.

Versatile Performance for Trout, Bass, and More

Designed for freshwater environments, the Streamer Sink Tip 10 is a go-to for targeting trout, smallmouth bass, or even carp in shallow water systems. The line’s durable outer coating stands up to repeated casting and varied conditions—whether you’re floating a river, hiking into alpine creeks, or launching from a drift boat. It excels during early season runoff, low-light streamer sessions, or anytime fish are holding just a few feet below the surface.

For anglers who appreciate efficiency, the Sink Tip 10 offers the ability to cover productive water quickly without switching out spools or leaders. It’s an essential tool when the fish are dialed in just below the topwater layer—giving your fly a natural, controlled descent without overcommitting to a full-sinking system. If you're looking for a sink tip that balances precision, turnover, and ease of use, Cortland’s Streamer Sink Tip 10 is the subtle workhorse you've been waiting for.
