Tropic Compact Breakdown
There’s one thing that gets on fly anglers’ nerves more than anything… Wind. The Tropic Compact was designed for throwing large flies for a variety of species in the toughest tropic conditions.
We designed this line with an overly aggressive head featuring a short 20 ft. body that packs a serious punch. The compact body paired with a short 3 ft. front taper easily turns over large air resistant flies in heavy wind. The short 3 ft. back taper helps load this line quickly with minimal false casting. Just load and shoot.
This dual colored line features a braided nylon core with our signature Tropic Plus coating for withstanding the blistering heat while still remaining slick, supple and fast shooting. The yellow and aqua blue color combination distinguishes taper change and is traceable yet stealthy to any species you may be targeting.
The Tropic Compact is one of our most versatile lines for tropic species. Never lose shots at fish again due to large flies, high winds or gnarly conditions.

large game fish or fish with hard
The perfect blend of advanced polymers to achieve a hard, durable surface that remains slick in extreme heat.
Ideal use in 50 - 70 degree (F) temperatures
Ideal use in 70 + degree (F) temperatures
Our Tropic Compact is built for tropic environments and will perform best in temperatures above 70 degrees (F). Our Tropic PVC coating is designed to remain hard, slick and supple in the hottest conditions.
The taper design for our Tropic Compact was built overly aggressive to cast large flies, punch through wind and ultimately deliver flies where they need to go despite the conditions. The short body and short rear taper allows for minimal false casts while achieving maximum distance. The short front taper will turn over any large fly or weighted pattern with ease. This line is built overweighted for quick loading and fast shooting.
The pale yellow and aqua blue finish distinguishes taper change, identifies loading point and blends in with tropic environments. This line remains stealthy yet traceable out in the flats, surf, or jungle.
Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

Great line for up against or in the mangroves!
Pretty nice line, running line a bit thick but doesnt tangle as much and that makes me very happy. Loads rod easy and handle big heavy flies with ease
One of the best lines I’ve used. Line loads amazingly well. Clients are constantly impressed. Captain Mark Yanno, Vero Beach Florida.
Love this line the short fat head really sends a big fly thnx again Cortland
Just the right length and weight for faster action rods. Loads quick and deep for fast shots. 👍
Great looking me for Florida weather. You can shoot this line with little effort on a heavy weight rod, without getting tired of casting on a long day. Lands light and rolls that leader and fly softly.
Fantastic line in that it cuts thru the wind.
