Heavy Sink Breakdown

The right choice for targeting large game fish down deep.

Our Tropic Plus Heavy Sink features a 30 ft. type 6 sinking head with a short 2 ft. front taper for turning over all large ocean patterns. The short 3 ft. back taper helps load this line quickly and makes it extremely shootable. Intermediate running line removes any hinges in the line and gives you a smooth transition into the depths.

Built on a 50lb braid core for ultimate stopping power and durability, the heavy sink features our signature tropic plus coating for withstanding the hottest temperatures while still remaining slick, supple and fast shooting. This line is finished in a black and smoke color.

DUAL WELDED LOOPS

Welded loops make rigging fast, easy and reliable. Cortland loops are strong, secure and durable.

SHOOTING TECHNOLOGY

ST coating delivers a reduced-friction performance with a glass-smooth finish and remains a key element in line slickness over its life span.

TROPIC PLUS

The perfect blend of advanced polymers to achieve a hard, durable surface that remains slick in extreme heat.

FIFTY+ CORE

Built for the most demanding species. Core strength of more than 50lbs allows anglers to put maximum drag and pressure on a fish without compromising the taper design or line density.

WARM TEMPERATURE

Ideal use in 50 - 70 degree (F) temperatures

TROPICAL TEMPERATURE

Ideal use in 70 + degree (F) temperatures

Our Tropic Plus Heavy Sink is built for tropic environments and will perform best in temperatures above 70 degrees (F). Our Tropic PVC coating is designed to remain hard, slick and supple in the hottest conditions.

The taper design for our Heavy Sink line was built to be aggressive up front to quickly transfer energy into your cast and easily turn over any large fly pattern. The short rear taper helps excel in quick loading and fast shooting.

This line is built on a 50 LB core to hold up to the hardest pulling fish in the saltwater. Built in 400-500 grains to load heavy fast action fly rods.

The black and smoke finish distinguishes taper change and ideal loading point while remaining stealthy in deep water.

Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

Gets to the Strike Zone fast

Cortland Heavy Sink has been a perfect match here in the Chesapeake Bay when we are throwing big heavy flys to migrating Stripers or Bull Redfish. It gets down to the strike zone fast and you can pick up to reposition quickly.
